road trip adventures of dad and daughter

so my dad decided to drive to Oklahoma to spend a month with his family. when i got back from England i asked if i could go with him.
"i'm driving out there you know" he said
"i know" i replied.

and that is how it began. we left saturday morning and took hwy 88 through the mtns. it was a beautiful drive. windows down and confortable silence. we stopped in truckee for lunch. i took my dad to this hippy joint where they have the best omlettes around. we had some good eats and then hit the road.

we spent some time in Carson City visiting my uncle, dad's brother and then hit the road. we drove through Nevada down to Vegas. i must say, i thought i lived in the sticks. we passed through "towns" that boasted old decayed buildings and tumble weed. the highlight of the day was when we were caught in a rain/dust storm. the highway stretched out ahead of us and we could see the mtns in the distance. angry clouds loomed above us and a double rainbow covered the freeway. it was incredible. i made my dad stop the car so i could jump out and get a picture. it was difficult to get out of the car cause the wind was so rough. i stood there, in the middle of nothing snapping pictures of God's spender and beauty. i just kept saying, "this is awesome, this is awesome!" as i got back in the car my dad said, "hannah, the Lord is with us". i knew this to be true.

we got to Vegas and spent the night. i must say i really don't like Vegas. it is dirty, smelly and cheap (not literally).

Sunday we hit the road, going over the Hoover Dam and into Arizona. we drove until we got to the Grand Canyon. i was amazed that we were in Arizona because of all the pine trees. it felt more like Oregon then Arizona. we got to the GC just around sunset and let me tell you...it took my breath away. we serve a big and awesome God. i wished we could have camped, but my dad isn't much for camping anymore so we kept driving. we did see elk on our way out though.

so i had to go pee as we drove out of the park (around the edge of the GC) and there weren't any bathrooms so we stopped at a point on the edge of the GC and i squatted behind a bush. the only reason im sharing this is because as i peed i looked straight out onto the Grand Canyon. the best view ive ever had while peeing. haha.

we stopped in Flagstaff, AZ to sleep and then hit the road Monday. we stopped at the Meteorite spot. it was overpriced for being a big hole in the earth, but it was pretty cool. then we drove to
Albuquerque for a bit then hit the road again. we decided to drive through the night, passing Amarillo, TX (it makes me think of armidillo's) and getting to Oklahoma City around sunrise. i woke up just in time to see the sun coming up over the flat prairie. it was beautiful!

and so here we are...at a hotel.
tomorrows plans: get a tour of the city with Tim. its kind of weird that we are hanging out in Oklahoma.

ive really enjoyed this trip with my dad. it is special cause i don't know if we will ever do something like this again. God has been really evident and i look forwad to the rest of my stay here.
