friendship

why do we fellowship? why do we spend time with friends? why do we need them?

these are the questions i asked myself as i sat and listened to a friend talk about her life.

it is because we want them to help us, give us advice, comfort us...
its about me, me, me.

instead it should be about them. as God convicted me of this in my own heart i envisioned Jesus washing the feet of the disciples. he served them. it was about them.

Jesus never complained about his friends not being there. He never said, "Peter isn't giving back in our relationship" or "I wish John would initiate things more often".

Jesus says the "Greater love has no one than this,  that someone lay down his life for his friends". (John 15:13).

this is why we are to fellowship, to build up our friendships. our motive shouldn't be for our own benefit, but to serve and love the another.
